Who we are

A nimble end-to-end video production company in the advertising & marketing space. Providing services to businesses of all shapes and sizes for more than a decade. Experienced across a wide range of industries including tourism, health, construction, education, energy, government, not-for-profit and retail. Based in Brisbane, Australia but travel all over.

we CREATE CONTENT WITH CONNECTION

Our mantra is “films you can feel”. This is what excites us to create emotive and honest story-based films. We combine a documentary approach with a cinematic edge to deliver an authentic emotional connection to the audience. 

Why ‘ballast’?

Ballast literally means a weighted material that adds stability. We want this to be a reflection of the meaningful stories we tell (weighty) and the confidence we aim to bring to our clients throughout the creative process (stability). Our desire is that each film we make not only delivers on the brief but exceeds expectations.

WHO WE WORK WITH

Film is all about collaboration and we love working with all types of agencies, brands, creatives and businesses. We’re not supposed to have favourites, but if we had to choose it would be local family-run businesses that have been around for a long time!

We’re married.
We started Ballast Films in 2017.
We have 2 boys.

Jared Bazley
DIRECTOR/DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

After graduating Film & Screen Media Production at Griffith University in 2009, I started my creative career as a freelance Director of Photography.

In 2017, I co-founded Ballast Films with a focus on creating meaningful brand and story-focussed films to service clients and agencies through all stages of production. Collaboration, problem-solving and delivering to a high standard is my jam.

I love spending time with my family, roasting specialty coffee and carving the streets on my OneWheel.

Kyrin Bazley
DIRECTOR/EDITOR

Since 2015, I’ve been exploring my unique eye through direction, editing and documentary photography - drawing on the beauty of unfolding human authenticity and intentionally connecting this to the receiving audience.

Collaboration, empathy and observation are critical tools I use for storytelling bringing the vision and ideas to life in post-production.

I love being a wife and mum, enjoy a good cuppa, and spending time at the beach.
